India's first National Park, established
in 1936 is famous for its wide variety of wildlife and its
beautiful location. It covers 520 sq. Km. on the bank of Ramganga
river in the foothills of the Himalaya. It may seem incongruous
for a national park to be named known for his book The Man-Enter
of kumaon. More commonly seen wildlife includes : Mammals
- wild elephants, Tiger, Leopard, Jungle Cat, Leopard Cat,
Sambur, Cheetal, Hog Deer, Barking Deer, Goral, Nilgai, Wild
Boar, Slothbear, Civet, Marten, Otter, Mongoose, Hare. Birds-
Over 580 species of resident and migratory birds. Reptiles
- Gharial, Mugger Crocodile, Python, King Cobra, Turtules,
Sal forest Tortoise, Monitor Lizard. Fishes- Mahaseer, Goonch,
Trout. Places nearly : Sitabani, Garjia Devi, Kalusidh, Kalagarh
Dam, Landsdowne, Machor, Kaladungi Corbett Museum. |
